Schmeerbauch approaches home building differently than other St. Louis builders. We don't create home designs
and then seek out families that fit them. Instead, we seek out families and design homes to fit them. A true
custom home is one in which most of the decisions and style will come from you...instead of the builder.
This doesn't mean it is difficult or tedious. On the contrary! This level of involvement in your own home makes it more exciting, fun and certainly more you.
STEP 1 - LISTENING
We begin the process by carefully listening to you describe your dream home. We take note of your special desires and get to know your needs and lifestyle. We talk about your budget, general ideas, and gradually get more specific until we have a good basic understanding of the type of home you imagine.
Sometimes we will then enlist the services of one of our architects to custom design your home from scratch. Often, we are able to start with some floorplans of homes from our files that we have already built. We'll listen to what you like and dislike, and together, we will develop what will become your dream home on paper.
STEP 2 - PUTTING IT ON PAPER
As the preliminary plans develop, your dream home begins to take shape on paper. We'll discuss it in detail, and you will be able to make the choices that personalize your home. We can modify and change the drawings until you are satisfied that they represent the home the way you want it to be. At this time, our architect will draw the working blueprints. These plans will be used for final pricing, bids from subcontractors and for actual construction of the home.
STEP 3 - CONSTRUCTION
Perhaps the most exciting moment of all is when the first machine begins to move the dirt on your homesite and construction of your dream home begins. We invite you to be a part of the process, whether you have a great deal of knowledge and experience with home building, or have never been involved in a construction project before. Don't hesitate to ask for an explanation at any time. We are always willing to explain the construction process to you.

After watching your dreams become reality right before your eyes, there is nothing quite like the feeling of finally moving in. The excitement and fulfillment of having created your home from your own ideas and dreams is like nothing else you will experience.
